Description: This vertical composite image of a corvid with geometric and linear forms was created by a student so they could practice merging original graphics with their photographs. They incorporated their original and personal digital design elements with their photography.

Description: This achromatic photograph depicts the face of a person turned almost completely in profile against a dark background. The student made this image so they could express a personal moment using available light while using a tripod.

Description: Viewed through a chain link fence, this monochromatic photo documents strip mining in western South Dakota. This student explored the interrupted frame while completing a landscape assignment, which was a way to practice landscape photography without being boring.

Assignment: Motion Blur and Shutter Speed
Description: This horizontal photo shows a truck crossing a rural path under the night sky. Traffic zips by in the background, noted by the bands of warm light created when the student dragged their shutter. This exercise allowed the student to explore motion with the use of slow shutter speeds and practice using tripods.
